Metabolic Psychiatry in Practice: Ketogenic Metabolic Therapy for Mental Health Care?
Some individuals with treatment-resistant depression and anxiety are experiencing significant improvements through ketogenic metabolic therapy, now supported by real-world clinical data.
In this interview, Dr Bret Scher talks with Dr Erin Bellamy about her recently published findings published in Frontiers in Nutrition, on her clinical program that integrates ketogenic metabolic therapy into routine mental health care.
Although this was not a randomised controlled trial, the results of this research provide valuable insights into how these interventions might function in everyday clinical settings, with notable improvements observed in both depression and anxiety metrics.
Dr Bellamy also provides valuable insights, highlighting how individuals with persistent, treatment-resistant symptoms managed to implement significant lifestyle changes. This challenges the notion that people with mental health conditions are unable to follow dietary interventions.
Dr Bellamy is initiating a new research study through her Baszucki Group Metabolic Psychiatry Scholar Award to further investigate and expand this approach.
